Conte, Spurs boss: “Confident” Son will play in the World Cup

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is confident Son Heung-min will be ready for the World Cup. The South Korean forward has had serious facial injuries and required surgery.

After colliding with Chancel Mbemba, the Spurs star suffered a fracture to his left eye.

The South Korean skipper/talisman underwent surgery on Friday. He is now in a race for fitness for the Qatar World Cup which begins on November 20.

After Son’s 2-1 defeat at home to Liverpool, Conte said that he had sent him a message.

“But I wish him well, and that he can recover quickly to play in the World Cup.

“I was a player, so I understand the importance of the World Cup.”

South Korea’s chances at reaching the knockout stages of the World Cup are dependent on Son, 30, who has scored 35 goals in 104 internationals.

South Korea will begin its campaign against Uruguay in Qatar on November 24 and faces Ghana and Portugal as part of Group H.

Son was a joint winner of the Premier League’s golden boot last season with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
