Areola was born on February 27, 1993, in Paris. His parents are of Lebanese and Filipino origin. They migrated to France in the late 1980s and settled in Grenelle, a suburb of Paris. When he was six years old, he joined a local sports club. He initially played as a left-back. He was then sent on loan to several clubs, and eventually signed a three-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain.
