If you’re a soccer fan, you’re no doubt aware of Giovanni Reyna, an American professional soccer player.
Giovanni Reyna is a young-goal scorer for the United States U-17 team. He is a product of the New York City FC academy. His father, Claudio, is the director of football operations at NYCFC.
The youngster helped the club to the U-18/U-19 Development Academy title in July. Despite his young age, Reyna has already been recognized as one of the best prospects on the U.S. U-15 national team.
Reyna is the son of Claudio Reyna, a former U.S. international and former midfielder. The younger Reyna is now the sporting director of Austin FC, which is expected to enter the MLS in 2021.
Reyna represented the United States at multiple youth levels, making his U-15, U16, and U17 teams. He scored goals in all three levels.
His parents are both retired professional soccer players. His father, Claudio Reyna, was a national team captain for the USA. His mother, Maria, holds a Portuguese passport.
Giovanni Reyna, who will turn 17 this week, became the youngest American to play and record an assist during a UEFA Champions League fixture.
Reyna has been making headlines since he signed with Borussia Dortmund in July. Earlier this year, he was promoted from the academy to the first team.
